Senior Christmas Dinner

What a great evening! It was so much fun hanging out with the Seniors and their LCBF leaders tonight. I am so proud of what John & Sandy Stokes, Gary Jones, and Jaime have done with this class. Tonight the ladies decided to host the fellows. They came early and decorated the house, set everything up, prepared games, and even cooked for us. The meal was delicious and the guys were pretty astounded. I heard several of them say that they could not wait until it was their turn to host the girls.
The guys made a special effort to be gentlemen to the ladies. It was pretty funny to see, but still made me very proud of them. I am so blessed to be around students and adults that truly love the Lord and want to be around with his people. At the end of the planned events the students did not want to go home so a few of them ran out and rented a movie and we watched Get Smart and ate popcorn.
Here is the interesting thing about tonight. There was nothing overtly spiritual intended for this evening. Now sure, we are a group of Christians that all come from the same church. We DID say a blessing, and everyone was kind and friendly. But there was something more genuine and authentic present tonight. What I observed tonight wasn’t a group from church getting together to talk about Jesus or how we should act. Instead, I saw Jesus in their laughing, affection, and desire to just be together. If we believe scripture, and we DO! THen we have to remember that inside of every believer is a place where the Holy Spirit of God resides. Now it is not a passive residence. Instead the Holy Spirit roars in us like the Christ figure, Aslan, from the Narnia series. He is not content to be a part of our lives from time to time. He is always there, even though we sometimes can’t see or feel Him.
I felt Him tonight as our students loved on and complimented each other. It was real and beautiful. It reminded me that if the Holy Spirit is inside of us all then He is the one that truly draws us together. I wish I could have taken 100 hurting lost 12th graders from all over Montgomery and injected them into this environment tonight. I could not do that tonight, but I can one student at a time. I am so glad that I have a place where lost and searching students will not only get to hear about Jesus, but they will get to interact with Him- through his kids!
Grace and Peace,
Matt
